William Blake

Previously the BBC has conducted a survey to find the 100 greatest
britons and then followed this up with a series on the top 10.
I have chosen three more people from the list who I would like to
create my own title sequences for. I wanted to pick very different
personalities. Each of which I would be able to find a good body
of interesting associated visuals to use as my starting point.

The first sequence will be devoted to William Blake. Initially I
am thinking about including elements of his own work, paintings
and poetry. Ultimately I want this sequence to reflect the dark,
gothic mood of his work in a way that will attract a
contemporary audience.

Firstly I searched YouTube to see if anybody else had tackled
this subject and what kind of thing they had come up with,
especially interpretations of his poetry. Here is a short 3D
animation of his poem "Mad Song."

The second clip is a short story by Guilherme Marcondes of Brazil
based on William Blake's poem 'Tyger'. What I particularly like
about this is the blend of photography with the animation. I
especially like the fairground footage and soundtrack to set the
tone at the beginning. I also think the glowing shapes which grow
and follow the puppet tiger and animation throughout are a really
nice touch adding a sense of magic to the story.

Of the two examples, I think the story is much more interesting,
because it captures the sense of Blake's poem but this has been
done in a contemporary style. Obviously these are far longer than
the 20 seconds I will be aiming to produce for a title sequence
but they have both helped me think about what I want to achieve.
